However, in real life, it is preferred to hand over this responsibility to a IP law firm or patent agency, because the patent attorneys know the system and know how to prepare an application, what it should describe and which term and fees that may apply.

Patent applications abroad

A national patent application can be extended to other countries with so-called priority from the original application. That means that the application abroad can refer back to the national application. In order to obtain this, it is an invariable requirement that the application be filed within 12 months from the filing date of the Norwegian application. Any publication of the subject matter in the meantime will have no effect with regard to the priority right.
